Take as many credits as you can handle at one time. Most universities charge you per credit, but only up to twelve credits. After that the rests of the credits in that semester are free. Taking eighteen credits per semester will leave you paying one-third less than your peers for the same education.


Set reachable goals so that you do not put excess stress on yourself. If you struggle with waking up each morning, don't set yourself up for failure by choosing morning classes if possible. Understand your internal clock and work with it as much as you can.


Don't try to do everything in one semester. It's easy to be an overachiever when there's so much to do and everything's new. You will burn out quickly if you try to take the maximum number of credits and join every campus activity that sounds interesting. Take a reasonable number of credits and try one or two activities your first semester.


When choosing your major, think about the kind of job you want, but think about the person you are. If you are someone who doesn't want to get up before noon, for example, you might not want to choose a major where the job possibilities require you to work early in the morning.


Be sure to sleep well and plenty. Many college students enjoy the freedom of going to bed whenever they want; therefore, they choose to stay up all night long and party, causing them to not get enough sleep. However, sleep is vital. Failing to get enough sleep will negatively impact your state of mind and hurt your grades.


Make the effort to get to know each of your instructors. Use office hours to visit each instructor at least once during the term. If the instructor is teaching a class in your major or intended major, spend more time in office hours. When you need a letter of recommendation, it will be easier if your instructors know you.


When you enter college, one of the first things that you should do is get a part time job. There are going to be a lot of hours that are available during the day, as this can help you increase your income. A job will pay its dividends and will reduce your worries when you are out having fun.


The dreaded freshman 15 (which can easily expand to become the freshman 20) is a lot easier to avoid if you do what you can to limit your carbohydrate intake. Avoid foods that are processed or high in sugar. Instead, consume as many fresh vegetables and fruit as you can. Also focus on whole grain foods. Both of these choices will help you feel more energized. Don't focus on just a protein diet either.


If you are going to be attending college soon and you value your privacy, you may be better off living off-campus. While living in a dorm is much cheaper than having an apartment, you are sacrificing your personal space. If money is an issue for you, search for a studio or one bedroom apartment.


Learn to budget. No matter where you get your money as a college student, you need to make sure your money lasts as long as you need it. Make a list of your expenses and think of how you can cut corners so that you can do what you need to do without going broke.


To make your studying easier, try making flashcards. While they can take some time to make, they are great for remembering concepts, vocabulary, formulas, and the like. One of their greatest features is that they are portable. This allows you to carry them with you and study just about anywhere.


Keep a few things in your room or apartment that are healthy, cheap and easy to eat. This will significantly cut down on late-night fast food runs and will save you money as a result. Peanut butter, yogurt and bagels are all good choices. They also do not have as many calories as fried chicken or hamburgers.


When you first get to college, get a map. You will feel a little silly using the map, but you do need to know where to go, after all. Map out your classes and the cafeteria so that you can easily get around when you first begin. That can make your first days less hectic.


Make sure you study what you are having the most difficult time with first. If you save it for last, you will be more fatigued and less likely to retain the information. It will make studying much more difficult for you. Save the subjects that come easiest to you for last.


When starting a new class, seek out people you know from other classes or other students who share common interests. By making friends with classmates you can have a better chance to form study groups that can ultimately lead to better study habits when it comes time for midterms and finals.


Try to attend some school sponsored events like football games, etc. Some of the most fun that people have in college is routing for their sporting teams at their college. It is always a great time to get together with your fellow classmates in the student section and scream your head off for your college!


College life is a time in a person's life that is usually remembered fondly. There is no question that college is a great challenge, and demands new skills from a young adult, but it is also a lot of fun. These tips should help a young person make the adjustment to campus life a smooth one.
